Who is Jackson Wang?

Let's be honest for a second: summing up Jackson Wang on one page is like trying to fit a typhoon into a shoebox.

Singer, rapper, songwriter, producer, creative director, label founder, designer… and former elite fencer.

Yes. Fencer. We're getting there.

Before the music, there was the sabre

Jackson Wang was born on 28 March 1994 in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong, into a family where "doing sport" wasn't exactly a Sunday hobby. His father, Wang Ruiji, an Olympic fencer, won China's first ever fencing gold at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok. His mother, Sophia Chow, was a gymnast — both competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. And his older brother played professional rugby in Australia.

Safe to say the sofa never stood much of a chance in that family.

He started fencing at 10, trained by his father. And he was good. Properly good. In 2010 he represented Hong Kong at the very first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, finishing 11th in the world junior rankings. In 2011 he became Asian junior sabre champion.

At this point in the story, it's all written. This boy is going to be a fencer.

One-way ticket to Seoul

July 2011. He lands in South Korea to become a trainee at JYP Entertainment.

He's 17. He doesn't speak Korean. And he's just closed the door on an athletic career half the planet would have killed for. New language, new country, new job, back to square one.

We like bringing this detail up whenever someone says he "got lucky".

GOT7, or the entrance

After more than two years of training, he debuted on 16 January 2014 with GOT7 and the single "Girls Girls Girls".

His energy and humour made him instantly recognisable — the kind of person you can spot on a variety show with the sound off. But behind the guy yelling on set, there was someone taking notes.

Quick note for newcomers: in January 2021, all seven members chose not to renew their JYP contracts. The group didn't split though — GOT7 came back with a self-titled EP in May 2022., then WINTER HEPTAGON on 20 January 2025 for their 11th anniversary, with Python as the title track.

TEAM WANG

2017: he founded TEAM WANG and released "Papillon" on 26 August, the first single of his solo career and the label's first release.

Except TEAM WANG didn't stay "just a label" for long. Music, production, art direction, and in July 2020 the launch of TEAM WANG Design, his fashion brand, where he's founder, creative director and designer all at once.

At that point he isn't making music anymore. He's building a universe, and overseeing nearly all of it.

Three albums, zero boxes

Mirrors (25 October 2019) — his first album, No. 32 on the Billboard 200.

LOST & FOUND (7 March 2022 — a mixtape dropped with no warning, eigth tracks recorded back in 2019 and left in a drawer.

MAGIC MAN ( 9 September 2022) — No. 15 on Billboard and his first proper world tour.

MAGIC MAN 2 (18 July 2025) — No. 13 on Billboard.

Pop, hip-hop, R&B, rock, Chinese and Western influences: he blends genres as much as markets, and at this stage trying to file him under one label is basically a contact sport.

Jackson and Europe

The part that concerns us directly, obviously.

Jackson has been a Louis Vuitton ambassador since January 2023, and hasn't missed a single men's Fashion Week in Paris since. In June 2026 he attended the Spring/Summer 2027 show: his 8th appearance for the house, his 4th consecutive year, front row. His collaboration with Pharrell Williams even went beyond clothes — their single "Sex God" served as the official soundtrack for the LV Autumn/Winter 2026 show.

On stage, the Magic Man World Tour hit Paris and London in January 2023, both sold out.

K-pop idol? Yes, he's a member of GOT7.

Chinese solo artist? Also yes.

International artist? Increasingly so.

Between Hong Kong, mainland China, South Korea and the rest of the world, his career has been built across several cultures and several music industries. And that's probably what sums Jackson Wang up best:

never really picking one path when you can create a new one.
